Notes:
Musical Theatre & Contemporary Masterclass
Amanda Crabb
11/7/15

-         Belt = singing on the thinnest edge of your chords.
-         requires tons of breath support,
-         keep the space in the mouth nice and square.
-         does not mean screaming, yelling, or taking the chest up high.
-         Only 2 vowels: eh & ah (Chicago, not Father)
-         exercise: sing V → I descending on “Why not”

-         Exercise: “My mother made marmalade” have the m tickle every time
keeps it very speech like

-         “Ghost eh”: keep an open “eh” in every vowel, men especially. Helps keep the vowels consistent, speech like

-         Space: when listening to musical theatre singers, we don’t hear the back space like we do when we hear opera. Resist the urge to make your space as small as theirs sounds, keep the soft palate high!!
